For those of you who have recently joined

As an administrator of this site, I would like to let you know that if your posting is not remotely connected with, biblical archaeology, you will be immediately removed and blocked permanently, or in the words of the old movie "terminated with extreme prejudice." There will be no first warning, no second warning. We want to maintain a useful and interesting group.

Additionally we need to be civil in the way that we deal with one another. Polite and gracious speech is expected even when we disagree with one another. It should be somehow related to biblical archaeology

It is not a forum for evangelism, apologetics, any type of political messages, or any type of tabloid-type postings. If anyone does post something, please check out the veracity of the material before posting. Even though I'm an Evangelical, serious scholars of all faiths and other interested parties (Judaism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Islam, Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, Evangelicalism) will be allowed to post on the subject of biblical archaeology

I'll shut down any argument that becomes disrespectful or mean-spirited and permanently ban those so engaged. We are all gentlemen/gentlewomen/gentlepersons on this list and will treat each other with respect even when we may vehemently disagree. If anyone feels like this will cramp their creativity of expression, we will graciously encourage you to start your own list.

Just understand that I'm trying to be as consistent as possible and I do not have an "axe to grind" with any person on the list. I may allow things that you do not think should be on the list and I may delete things that you may think should be on the list. I'm definitely not perfect. Being uncivil towards another forum member is the quickest route to dismissal from the list. Tone is SO important.

If you see something you think I might have overlooked, please feel free to send me a personal message and I'll look at it or click the "report" button. I can and will delete anything that I feel is meant to demean another person and will permanently ban any poster who does that.

Please avoid using terms like "b.s" or any of its cognates or synonyms to refer to another poster's contributions. Try to keep your language respectful and clean. The best way to avoid being permanently banned is to use scholarly forbearance in dealing with the many different types of posters. Please avoid criticizing the policies of the forum or their execution as I will take this as your desire to be removed from the list and will accommodate you.

Please learn to "disagree agreeably" and avoid taking any posting personally. The normal conventions of politeness and graciousness that are recognized in polite personal face-to-face conversation are expected of all posters. Please avoid "flame wars" and allowing discussions to turn into arguments. Please learn to tolerate postings that may go against your worldview. This does not mean you have to accept the viewpoint but graciously tolerating differing opinions will go a long way in making this list valuable to wide range of people.

In spite of some rather heated exchanges, this list continues to grow at an amazing rate\ I think these are reasonable expectations that will allow this list be one of quality for newbies as well as seasoned scholars. I will be vigilant in maintaining a quality list.
